Red flag warnings were in effect at area beaches Wednesday.
A high risk of rip currents kept lifeguards on their toes. They can sweep swimmers out to sea in seconds.
The red flags are a signal that the ocean this week is for only the strongest of swimmers.
"Don't go past where your comfort level is, or else the ocean's going to take you," said surfer Johnny Wosco.
Strong rip currents are expected Thursday, too.
