Jacksonville trucker says beer bottle smashed windshield

A truck driver is sending out a warning after he said he had something thrown at his window in Jacksonville

It happened on Commonwealth Avenue, near Edgewood, around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Terry Hill said in his 30 years of truck driving he never expected something like that to happen to him.

“For the life of me, I can't even put my mind around why someone would even do that,” Hill said.

He said he was startled when he heard a bang. At first, Hill thought it was a gunshot.

“It made such a loud noise and that's when I knew something wasn't right when I felt glass hit me,” Hill said.

This is the second time in just over a week that a truck driver had their windshield smashed by an object that was thrown at their vehicles.

Action News Jax told reported the other incident happened Feb. 14 on I-10, just west of Cassat Avenue.

Charles McCollum, a professional truck driver, said some people don’t realize how dangerous it is to mess with a driver behind the wheel of an 80,000 pound truck.

“You're risking killing somebody,” McCollum said.

In the last year, the Florida Highway Patrol said at least four drivers have reported similar incidents.

Action News Jax Law and Safety expert Dale Carson said the person responsible could be charged with throwing a deadly missile, which is a third-degree felony.
