Two men arrested for burglery in St. Johns County

Two men from St. Johns County were arrested Wednesday for a car burglary earlier that morning.

The two men, identified as Michael Daniel Abel, 24, and Robert Stephen Piet II, 19, were each charged with one count of burglary and booked into the St. Johns County Jail.

Deputies responded to a report of the two men opening car doors in the Heritage Park Neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Officers said they found several cars opened on Pine Arbor Cir. where they stopped an occupied white Chevrolet on the roadway.

The car sped off and went further into the neighborhood when deputies approached it.

Authorities said the car crashed into street signs as the driver tried to abandoned the car in a driveway on Newpark Ct.

Deputies said they searched the area but only found a trail of stolen items and no suspects.

Deputies and detectives later found the men at Piet’s residence. Both men were wet, sweaty and torn up by briars and palmettos, officials said.

The two were brought in for questioning and charged with the car burglary. The men were also linked to several other burglaries.

Detectives said they recovered four stolen guns from the trailer on C.R. 208. One had been reported stolen from a car in the Northwest part of the county and another from a Flagler County burglary.

Piet was also charged for violating his probation and has a no bond. Abel is in jail with a $3,500 bond.

The two face additional charges as the investigation continues.
