Two shot early Monday morning on the Westside, culprits sought

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two men are in the hospital and police say several gunmen are on the loose after a shooting on the Westside.

Neighbors who live at the Huron-Sophia Apartments were awakened by gunfire in the parking lot Monday morning. They told Action News it's something that's been happening more often lately.

A neighbor said, "About 20 minutes to six we got woke up to gunshots. We heard approximately 8 or 9 of them going off."

"I got out of my bed and laid on the floor," another neighbor said.
A 20-year-old and a 30-year-old man were shot in the parking lot, one in the abdomen and the other in the leg. Both were taken to UF Health.

"It only took police about four minutes to get here. They just got swarmed by police and fire department rescue. They blocked it all off," said a neighbor.
Now police are searching for several gunmen.
"We currently do not have a description of the shooters at this time," said Lt. Ashish Sircar.
Neighbors say shootings in and around Huron-Sophia Apartments are common.
"We get it randomly all the time out here. You might see it several times a month," a neighbor said.
The Violent Crimes Task Force is investigating.
Police are not releasing condition of two victims.
Officers are also not sure if the suspects were in a vehicle or if they fled on foot. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
