Clay County family escapes home minutes before it collapses

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay County family escaped their long-time home minutes before it collapsed Sunday.

A neighbor caught the moments before the two-story house collapsed on video.

By the time firefighters arrived at the home on Hidden Waters Drive, the house was engulfed in flames.

The family lived in the home for 15 years before the fire claimed in Sunday.

The fire also damaged two neighboring homes.

The owner said he needed time to take in the situation.

His niece said Victoria Johnson said her uncle smelled something, saw the flames and fled the home with his wife.

"They didn't even have shoes on their feet. My aunt didn't have socks on her feet," she said.

There was no fire hydrant near the home, so firefighters used a foamy solution to put out the fire.

Johnson said her aunt and uncle will be OK, and are glad they got out.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
