Video could be key in solving Publix car burglaries

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators hope a clip of surveillance video helps solve a rash of car burglaries in Clay County.

Last month, several people told detectives they had belongings stolen from their cars at the Publix supermarket on Highway 17.

One woman had her Michael Korrs purse stolen.  Another woman had her purse and $200 in cash taken from her car.  A man told detectives someone tried to pry open his car door.

Investigators said witnesses reported seeing a suspicious person wearing a red shirt and long white shorts walking behind the businesses at the time of the break-ins.

Detectives said another burglary was reported at the same location in May.

Video taken from inside a Tropical Smoothie cafe showed a man matching the description.  Investigators hope someone recognizes the man and calls Crime Stoppers.

The number to call is 866-845-TIPS.  You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward of up to $3,000 if your tip leads to an arrest.
