Westside pizza place closed due to roaches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — During a recent health inspection of the Domino’s Pizza on 103rd Street, an inspector found more than a dozen flies in the kitchen and 14 live roaches and issued a stop sale on more than 12 items, including ham, wings and pasta. The manager referred me to corporate, which released a statement saying the following:

"Hello Romney,

Thank you for your inquiry. Last week the health inspector visited the store in question. We are currently in the process of re-imaging our lobby. It was during this construction process that he noticed evidence of insects and a piece of malfunctioning equipment. Within 3 hours of the initial visit, we were cleared to reopen. The health department has been back two subsequent times and we passed both times. We take quality and cleanliness seriously and are working towards providing our customers with a beautiful restaurant to enjoy dining in or carrying out.

Thank you again for your inquiry.

Peggy Richards, Company Director"

Domino's was allowed to reopen for business after the follow-up inspection.

A health inspector at Casablanca on the Bay in St. Augustine found expired ham, discovered the dish machine sanitizer was too weak to clean and issued a stop sale on food. It has had one follow-up inspection, but needs another.

At Longhorn Steakhouse on Airport Road, an inspector saw live flies in the kitchen, issued a stop sale on key lime pie and noticed an employee work with raw and cooked food without washing their hands.  A follow-up inspection is required.
