White House making move to help historically black colleges and universities

The White House is making a move it said will help schools such as Edward Waters College.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order that moves the Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities from the Department of Education back to the guidance of the president.

Edward Waters College President Dr. Nathaniel Glover is in Washington D.C alongside dozens of other HBCU presidents to bolster support for the college.

EWC officials said it’s important to maintain a strong relationship with the White House.

“We need to be considered, thought about and placed on the same level as other institutions,” said Dr. Anna Hammond, the executive vice president of the college.

The Trump administration said the order will give HBCUs greater visibility and a shot at more strategic partnerships and federal funding.
