Witness: Dog saved after being thrown out with garbage in Columbia County

A local man accused of throwing a dog out with the trash could be facing charges.

A witness says he saw a man throw the dog out his window and into the woods near Osceola National Forest. Kyle Green was driving down Gum Swamp Road when he says he noticed a black tuck had stopped on the side of the road.

"I noticed he got a trash bag out and threw it in the woods," says Green.

Green soon realized it wasn't just trash. It was a a dog.

"Picked her up and threw her, actually threw her into the woods," Green said. 

He says he stopped the man and confronted the man.

"'I said, 'Did you just throw that dog and trash out your truck and speed off?'"

Green says the man admitted to it, and sped off after Green told him he was calling the police. 

"He had no remorse," Green said.

Action News Jax went to the home of the man accused of throwing the dog out to ask why he did it, but no one answered.

Snickers, the 1-year-old pit bull, is now at the Lake City Humane Society waiting for a new home.

"It takes someone with no heart to do something like that," Green said. 

As for the accused man, deputies say they are still investigating. They say he could be charged with abandonment of an animal.
