Witness said Kirkpatrick admitted to murder of firefighter's wife

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The first witness who took the stand Monday in the trial for Lance Kirkpatrick was Brian Kiefer, a man who let Kirkpatrick stay at his home in 2012.

Back in October of that year, Kim Dorsey, the wife of a Jacksonville firefighter, was killed when she was hit with a blunt object and stabbed. Police believe Kirkpatrick was the killer.

When Kiefer testified, he seemed to confirm what police believed and said he spoke with Kirkpatrick after Dorsey's murder.

"He told me that he had done something that he was going to regret and that he was going to prison," said Kiefer.

Keifer said Kirkpatrick admitted to killing her and described what happened inside the Dorsey's home that day.

"He said that he had shattered a pool stick on her and that she had fired five shots at him," said Kiefer.

While Kirkpatrick didn't take the stand Monday, the prosecution showed his initial arrest interview, where Kirkpatrick describes what happened the weekend of Dorsey's murder.

He claimed he went to the Dorsey's home to speak with Kim's husband, Derrick Dorsey, but he said no one answered the door, and he never entered.

"I went over there a week ago maybe a week and a half ago looking for him to see if I could get some money from him," said Kirkpatrick.

But detectives didn't believe him.

"I know that you were inside the house," said the investigating detective.

The state has not rested, the case will continue again Tuesday morning.
