Witnesses: Car catches fire after crashing into gas pump

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. — Witnesses tell Action News a car caught fire after crashing into a pump at a gas station on Sunday evening.

The fire happened at the Shell gas station on Atlantic Boulevard near Penman Road. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and extinguished the blaze.

Neptune Beach Police said only the gas station was impacted by the explosion and no other businesses were evacuated.

Police say the driver hit a gas pump, knocking it off. The driver was travelling at a fast speed, causing the tires to blow out, according to police.

The gas pump station was left charred and laying on its side.

According to witnesses, no one was hurt.
