FORT WORTH, Texas (KRMG) -- David Underwood and his wife were happy to be moving from their current home to a new one they had bought on a lake.
As they got ready for the move the couple began the process of selling their old house and moving into the new one.
It didn’t go exactly as they planned.
When David dropped by the new house to mow the lawn he saw something rather odd, there was only a foundation.
David told KDFW "we came around Silver Creek looking for the lot and my wife said, David, I think the house is gone. We looked up and sure enough, it's gone."
The city of Fort Worth had contracted a demolition company to tear down the condemned house next door to the Underwood’s but they made a mistake and demolished the wrong home.
The lake house had been in Underwood’s family for years and he had just bought it from his aunt.
Now they have no lake home and to make matters worse the city was billed $6,000 by the demolition company despite the fact the original target is still standing.
A Ft. Worth spokesman says the city is looking into the incident.
