TULSA, Okla. -- Fireworks were fired at emergency responders In North Tulsa Thursday night.

Friday morning Chamberlain Park remained littered with the remnants of fireworks that have been shot off.

“It was like a war zone,” neighbor Deborah Jones described the scene. “It was so smoky over here that you could barely see.”

Jones lives right down the street from Chamberlain Park and says when she returned home from the River Parks Fireworks show, there was smoke in the air.

“They were having some kind of fireworks war or something, and it set the Chamberlain roof on fire.”

Things escalated when firefighters arrived to tend to that roof fire.

Our cameras caught the action as firefighters became target—you can see smoke by the fire trucks.

Police tell us the fireworks caused problems all night long, but Jones says even with officers around, the kids didn’t stop—putting themselves in danger and others.

Jones says, “I saw some of the kids were holding those roman candles in their hands, you know, those things can back fire. I’ve seen them backfire and burn people in the chest, burn them in the face.”

We found out it was a firefighter who was hit by sparks near the face, fortunately he only has minor injuries.

Our crews were in the park as police tried to control the crowds, but many people took off running, while others took pictures.

Fox23 News checked in with police departments in and around the Tulsa Metro area and found most say they also dealt with lots of firework calls.

But no department reported problems as serious as the ones Tulsa police and firefighters dealt with.
