GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County teen faces serious charges in a crash that killed his friend.
Police say Charles Huff lost control of his car on Friday on Richland Parkway in Suwanee. Huff and his friend Scott Rozsa, 18, were headed home from work when Huff’s vehicle struck two trees, killing Rozsa.
Janet Carpenter told WSB-TV Channel 2’s Liz Artz she’s heard squealing tires before on her street. Friday she heard the crash and knocking at the back door where she found Huff.
Huff asked for a knife and cut Rozsa out of his seat belt, Carpenter said.
He now faces several charges, including vehicular homicide and reckless driving. A police report obtained by Artz says Huff was driving at least 20 mph over the speed limit and failed to negotiate a curve.
Huff’s father told Artz that his family will attend a Thursday funeral for Rozsa. The boys were friends who just graduated high school.
Huff’s father said he spoke with Rozsa’s family and his mother said she does not want the teenager to be charged.
Carpenter told Artz that Huff returned the next day and thanked her for calling 911.
