WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities in a Salt Lake City suburb said Monday that a man who was shot after pulling a gun in a police station lobby told officers months ago that he wanted to be killed by police.
Police in West Valley City said James Ramsey Kammeyer, 40, entered the lobby on Monday morning and pulled out a gun. Police officers inside said he did not follow instructions, and they were forced to open fire.
Kammeyer was hit several times, but he is expected to survive.
According to police, Kammeyer told officers previously in December that he wanted to be shot to death by police because he was a registered sex offender and his wife was trying to take custody of their children.
