VALLEJO, Calif. (KTVU) -- Vallejo Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a father of two at the doorstep of his apartment.
Investigators say 26-year-old Lydell Brown may have interrupted a burglary in progress at a neighboring unite when the suspect opened fire and ran off.
The shooting happened on Friday, November 29th just after 5 p.m., inside the apartment complex located at135 Carolina Street.
Police say at least one gunshot went through Brown's front door.
Family members say the victim worked as a department manager at Wal-Mart, volunteered at his daughter's school and was a devoted Raiders season ticket holder.
"It would mean so much to my family to his family, if we can get the littlest piece of anything that would help to solve this because he did not deserve this," said Brown's girlfriend Takiyah Anderson.
Investigators believe Brown did not know the shooter and was simply trying to help his neighbor after hearing a disturbance outside.
"He recognizes that things aren't as minor as they appear and he's retreating going back into his apartment when he's shot," said Vallejo Police Sergeant Joe Iacono.
Police are going over surveillance video and processing physical evidence from the crime scene, while also hoping more witnesses to this deadly shooting will come forward.
A website has been set up to raise funds to support Brown's family. Interested parties can make donations here.
