ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Orange County woman is battered and bruised head to toe after two purse thieves dragged her along with their car when they tried to take off with her purse.
She said she's not sorry she fought back.
As a nurse, 67-year-old Doris Rusnak said she's used to taking care of others, but now has her own wounds to nurse.
Rusnak said she was trying to find her car in a parking lot when Shannon Dooley stopped his car near her, with Jennifer Rodriguez sitting in the passenger's seat.
Rusnak said Dooley acted like he was checking his left front tire, but instead grabbed her purse. She said she could see Rodriguez rummaging through her purse.
"I started screaming at them, 'Give me my pocketbook, give me my...' I said that so many times," Rusnak said.
She said instinct made her grab onto the car and fight back for her purse.
"He started moving the car, and then he picked up speed and I fell off of the car and I think I rolled," Rusnak said.
Rusnak suffered severe injuries to her knees, feet, hands and elbow.
Less than 45 minutes from the time she was dragged, reports show the two used her cards at a convenience store and other places.
"Apparently these hoodlums also drove a half hour up to Apopka and at midnight tried to use it again at Circle K," Rusnak said.
The couple was caught using her cards and arrested.
Despite her injuries, Rusnak said she's glad she fought back.
"You want these jerks to know that they can't get away with it," Rusnak said.
Dooley and Rodriguez were arrested in the last two months for other thefts.
Dooley is still in jail on $7,300 bond.
