WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Palm Beach Post) -- Trader Joe's is being sued for allegedly cornering the market on peanut butter-filled pretzels, according to NPR.
Maxim Marketing in Southern California claims it invented the popular peanut butter pretzel in the 1980s.
For more than 25 years, Maxim supplied the quirky grocery chain. The pretzels are sold under the private Trader Joe's label.
But now, Maxim says the retailer has switched suppliers to packaged food giant ConAgra Foods, unfairly cutting it out of the business it pioneered. So Maxim is now suing both companies, explains journalist Alfred Lee, who writes for the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Trader Joe's is opening four locations in Palm Beach County this year: Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach, Wellington and Boca Raton
