CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WSOC-TV) -- Police were on the scene of a downed tree in south Charlotte after a powerful storm rolled through overnight.
Residents were forced to leave their homes.
Crews are concerned another tree could cause even more damage.
Channel 9 learned that 20 to 25 people at Abbey Place Apartments were forced out after the tree ripped through the building.
The massive trunk of the tree can be seen in a video shot by Channel 9.
“I thought someone got killed. It was serious. I never seen nothing like this over here before,” said resident Brittany Godfrey.
Everyone that was forced out, was able to find a place to stay overnight.
The American Red Cross offered assistant, but didn’t have to get anyone shelter.
