Man charged with attempted murder in Palatka shooting

PALATKA, Fla. —

Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting another man in the 500 block of North Eighth Street on Thursday evening.

Nathaniel McDuffy, 40, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted murder.

The Palatka Police Department was called to the shooting around 7:20 p.m. to reports of shots fired, according to a release from PPD Assistant Chief James Griffith. When they arrived, they found a 35-year-old man in the front yard of a home with a gunshot wound to his back.

The victim was taken to the Putnam Community Medical Center and then taken by air to a trauma center.

Witnesses told police McDuffy, who was in a home across the street, was the one who shot the man, Griffith said.

McDuffy was booked into the Putnam County Jail on no bond.
