Person in critical condition after driving into water at Crescent Beach

CRESCENT BEACH, Fla. — A St. Johns County Sheriff's Office public service assistant was patrolling the beach along Crescent Beach and went into cardiac arrest.

The driver lost control and veered into shallow water, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department.

Bystanders provided first aid until Marine Rescue and St Johns County Fire Rescue Department arrived.

Witnesses say just before the crash he was helping bury a dead sea turtle.

The driver was taken to Flagler Hospital and is in critical condition.
