Sheriff: No 'credible threat' to St. Johns County schools

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook on Thursday in an effort to dispel rumors of copycat attacks in the wake of last week's Florida school shooting.

"The St Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the St Johns County School Board has been made aware of a threat that started making rounds on Facebook last night referencing an attack on a school with the initials “SHS” with fear that it was a threat to a school in our county," authorities said. "After investigating the situation and the threat, it was learned that the school identified as SHS was Springfield High School in Springfield, Ohio."

One parent contacted Action News Jax with a screenshot of an alleged threat at Creekside High School on Thursday. It was just one of many perceived threats against multiple schools -- Clay County deputies spent a considerable amount of time investigating a threat against Oakleaf High School.

Will Edwards, a junior at Oakleaf High, told Action News Jax that he is "not sure whether to take it seriously or not. There’s a lot of different things that happen.”

"Students in our schools are in class and are safe, and it is safe for you to bring your children to school," the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said. "Thank you to those who have brought this to our attention."
