State Road 16 closed at Lewis Speedway due to water main break

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — State Road 16 is closed in both directions at Lewis Speedway due to a water main break, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue said there is no eastbound traffic access to the city due to the closure and the time that the road will be back open is unknown.

Action News has learned that Florida East Coast Rail was working on a conduit near its rail line when crews hit a water main around 3 p.m. City of St. Augustine crews are trying to fix the break and there is no estimated resolution time.

The Florida Highway Patrol was reporting Monday night that the road was still closed in the area "due to a major water main break."

St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan said the roads will be closed until the brake is repaired, which is expected some time Tuesday. Those who travel in the State Road 16/Lewis Speedway area should find an alternate route or expect delays.
