DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two swimmers are recovering after being nipped by sharks in the ocean off central Florida.

Volusia County Beach Patrol Capt. Tammy Marris says a 58-year-old Orlando woman in 3 feet of water suffered a small puncture wound to her left ankle Sunday afternoon. The woman drove herself to a hospital.

Marris tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that an 8-year-old Deltona girl was bitten a couple hours later while she was boogie-boarding in shallow water. The girl suffered minor puncture wounds to her calf and hand. Her parents took her to a hospital.

There have been six shark bites in the waters off Volusia County this year. All the bites have been minor.
