COBB COUNTY, Ga. (WSB-TV) -- Cobb County police have detained three people in connection to the shooting of a Cobb Co. police officer this morning.
The shooting happened near Powers Ferry Road and Interstate 285 around 2:30 a.m.
The shooting appears to have taken place during a traffic stop. Police said the officer pulled over a blue Volvo. Police were initially searching for a red Dodge Stratus with Georgia tag PJG 7617 that was following the Volvo, but as of 6:45 a.m. said they are now searching for a red Ford Fusion tag No. BEX 3690.
Police said they found a Georgia Department of Corrections ID inside the blue Volvo.
Police searched the area of the Walton on the Chattahoochee and Chattahoochee Chase apartment complexes throughout Tuesday morning.
Police released detailed descriptions of two of the suspects. One of the men is white and in his 20s. He was wearing denim shorts over black sweatpants and a red shirt over a black hoodie. He has a crew cut and tattoos covering both of his arms. He has a Nike swoosh tattoo under one of his eyes.
The woman is white, has blond hair and was wearing a knit cap, a gray shirt and a beige jacket.
Channel 2's Sophia Choi said a man and woman were captured earlier Tuesday morning for questioning. The second man, believed to be the gunman, was caught hiding in an abandoned home.
Police say the officer is in stable condition and is expected to be OK. The officer was taken to a local hospital. He has been on the police force for 18 months and is a patrol officer. Police said he noticed a couple of cars acting suspiciously this morning and attempted to make a traffic stop.
