ORLANDO, Fla. -- A boxing coach is in jail accused of having sex with an underage girl he was training.
James Lyons was arrested Monday on charges of sexual activity with a child.
The two met at Tyson Sports, a gym owned by Lyons on Hoffner Avenue in south Orlando.
The girl had been training with Lyons for four years, according to a report.
Her mother told detectives she considered him a father figure for his daughter.
It appears both were betrayed, and Lyons is locked up in the Orange County jail with no bond Tuesday night.
Lyons appeared before a judge Tuesday morning, looking meek and reserved as a judge told him he was being charged with sexual activity with a child.
The 41-year-old did not respond.
Arrest papers said Lyons had sex with the girl he was training at least four times inside his south Orlando home.
The papers said he persuaded her to go to his place to watch training videos, and that's when those sessions took a terrible turn.
Monday, the girl reported Lyons to a school resource officer at Colonial High School. The officer called detectives.
According to arrest documents, Lyons forced the girl to have sex with him, and she told detectives she pleaded with Lyons to leave her alone.
Investigators said when she tried to get him to stop, he sent her a text message saying she needed to prove she was 110 percent dedicated to him and her training.
During an interview with investigators, Lyons apparently told them he never had sex with the girl, but did have her over his place.
WFTV reporter Ryan Hughes stopped by his home, but no one answered.
Lyons turned down WFTV's request for a jailhouse interview. Deputies haven't said if there are other victims.
