CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- Police have arrested 13 people as a result of a gambling raid.
The raid comes after months of undercover work by the Chamblee Police Department between Buford Highway and Chamblee Dunwoody Road. The undercover agents went into 14 different businesses in Chamblee over the last three months, according to Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson. Of the people arrested in the raid, 11 were store workers and two others were wanted on probation violations.
When the undercover agents won, store workers would pay the agents cash for their winnings, which is illegal in the state of Georgia.
The illegal practice of gambling is more popular than ever, according to Johnson.
“This is the third major operation we’ve done in Chamblee, and the last one was three years ago,” he told Channel 2's Eric Philips.
In this raid, police seized nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
