Coast Guard deals with barge incident in downtown Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Coast Guard was called in after a 700-foot barge broke free from its mooring near downtown Wednesday morning.
Crowley Marine notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center that the 700-foot barge Miami broke loose from its mooring and sideswiped the Crowley Terminal pier and the tugboats Ensign and Patriarch.
According to Crowley, the barge broke free as a result of severe weather in the area.
No injuries or pollution was reported. The pier and tugs were reported to have suffered minimal damage from the accident.
The barge Miami was moved to a local repair facility.
