FPL crews restoring power cut by Sandy, nor'easter

MIAMI (AP) - Florida Power & Light Co. crews are still working to restore power to the Northeast, where millions who lost electricity in Hurricane Sandy now face frigid temperatures and snow.

The Florida utility says it has dispatched more than 1,000 employees and contractors to help in the Sandy recovery effort. Those efforts have been hampered by a subsequent nor'easter that dumped snow, brought down power lines and left hundreds of thousands of new customers in New York and New Jersey in darkness.

When FPL sent its crews north last week, officials said they were happy to help other states because Florida utilities usually get a helping hand whenever hurricanes strike here. Crews from Georgia came to the state in October to help FPL restore power after Sandy's rains drenched Florida.
