TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is canceling his plans to head to the Dominican Republican for a trade mission.
Enterprise Florida, the state's economic development organization, announced last fall that Scott would make a trip in February to the Caribbean country.
The governor's office said a decision to skip the trip was made several weeks ago and that participants were notified.
Scott has taken 10 trade related trips since he took office in January 2011. His last trade mission was to Japan in November.
The governor has taken more trips abroad than former Gov. Charlie Crist. Some of the countries he has visited include France, England, Israel, Brazil, Spain, Chile and Colombia.
Scott defends the trips as a way to open doors for Florida-based companies seeking business abroad.
