ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 16-year-old girl is hospitalized in critical condition after she was shot at a house party early Sunday morning, according to Orange County deputies.
A party was being held in the backyard of a home on Ravenwood Avenue when someone opened fire around 1 a.m., deputies said.
According to investigators, a 16-year-old girl at the party was shot. The victim, who hasn't been identified, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Deputies said several witnesses were at the party but most of them ran from the home when the shot was fired.
"Most of them left prior to our arrival. Our main concern was to make sure the female was okay and by that time we only had a few witnesses left," Lt. Paul Hopkins with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
Nearby residents told WFTV they are concerned crime is on the rise in their neighborhood.
"I think it's drug dealing and I don't want this on my block. I've lived here too long to have this happen now," resident Iris Apuzzie said.
Eyewitness News tracked down the owners of the home and they said the property is rented to tenants who haven't been paying. The owners were unaware of the shooting incident that happened early Sunday.
Hopkins said the shooter was not located. Officials haven't released a description of the suspect.
