TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott is reaching out to tens of thousands of teachers, high school seniors and incoming college students across the state.

In what may be a first for a sitting governor, Scott this month asked school districts, community colleges and universities to send out letters the governor wrote.

Scott in his letter to students mentions his own background - including that he spent time living in public housing - as he urges them to think about the kind of education that will help them land a job. He also suggested that students work while in school.

Scott in his letter to teachers thanked them for the job they are doing.

Scott this week held an education listening tour where he has met with teachers, students and parents.
