GREENACRES, Fla. (Palm Beach Post) -- A teen who allegedly used a stolen cellphone to take “selfie” photos turned himself in Monday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jess Ewald, 19, of Greenacres was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of grand theft. He was remained in custody late Monday in lieu of $3,000 bail.
The sheriff’s office discovered the “selfie” photo and posted it on its Facebook and Twitter pages, prompting an “overwhelming response” from tipsters who identified Ewald as the suspect, sheriff’s spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.
Investigators allege that Ewald stole the phone from a woman who was working the morning of Dec. 15 at Benny’s on the Beach in Lake Worth. Sheriff’s deputies said Ewald used the stolen phone to take picture of himself.
The alleged victim told deputies she remembered seeing Ewald at the restaurant with a group of his friends.
