WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (PBP) -- Jury selection begins Monday for former TV weatherman Robert Lopicola, who is charged with having sexual activities with minors he met through Craigslist.
In July 2012, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Krista Marx set Lopicola’s bail at $130,000 and ordered he have no contact with the alleged victims in the case or anyone under the age of 18. She also ordered he have no access to the Internet or possess any device that allows him access to the Internet.
In 2012, Public Defender Carey Haughwout argued that Lopicola “does not appear to be employed” and therefore qualifies. The Assistant State Attorney rebutted that at the time he was arrested, Lopicola worked as a bartender six days a week. Ultimately, Marx appointed the public defender’s office to represent him.
The former WPTV Channel 5 weekend meteorologist faces charges including sexual activity with minors, lewd and lascivious battery, computer pornography and child exploitation.
The charges stem from separate and multiple encounters Lopicola is accused of having with two teenagers between August 2010 and April 2011 after meeting them through Craigslist ads.
