ISLAMORADA, Fla. (AP) - A 58- year-old man has been airlifted to Miami after being severely bitten on the hand by a 4-foot-long Lemon shark.

Monroe County Sheriff's officials said Walter Kefauver and his nephew decided to bait their hook with a piece of Barracuda while fishing in the Florida Keys on Thursday. They managed to hook a Lemon shark and successfully reeled it onto the boat. As they were trying to remove the shark from its hook, authorities say the shark lunged at Kefauver, biting deep into his left hand near his wrist.

Paramedics were waiting at the boat ramp when they returned to shore.

Kefauver's injury is not life threatening, but officials said the damage to his hand was extensive.
