PORT ST. LUCIE (Palm Beach Post) — Port St. Lucie police need the public’s help in finding a man accused of robbery with a firearm and sexual assault on two women early Sunday at an elementary school playground.

Police said a group of six people — two adult females and four teenage males — were walking to Mariposa Elementary School around midnight to hang out on its playground.

While walking there, the group passed a man about 18 to 20 years old with tightly cropped curly hair. They said he asked them if they wanted to smoke marijuana. The group told him no and continued to walk to the school in the 2600 block of Southeast Mariposa Avenue.

Brandishing a gun, the man then approached the group at the playground and told the six people to lie on the ground. Police said he then took one male’s wallets and one of the women’s cellphones.

The suspect then ordered the two females to take off their clothes and sexually assaulted one of them, police said. The other female tried to run from the scene, but the suspect chased and caught her, hit her in the head with a gun and tried to assault her sexually, police said.

He fled on foot when the second sexual assault failed.

Police are asking if you have any information regarding this crime to immediately contact the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at (800) 273-TIPS (8477).
