ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -- Authorities are investigating a suspicious house fire in Rockledge on Christmas Day.

Firefighters responded to a home on the 1000 block of Bernice Road in Rockledge around 10 a.m. Crews were able to extinguish flames inside the home, but not before it sustained heavy damage.

Officials said a mother and her two sons, a 13-year-old and a 23-year-old, were in the home when the fire broke out. The sons were located uninjured at the scene, but the mother had fled the area, according to authorities.

"All indications are leading to some kind of possible domestic issue. Other than that, I can't comment any further," a battalion chief with the fire department said.

The mother was later located and taken to the police department for questioning.
