Teacher accused of sending sexual images to teen; child molestation
ST. MARYS, Ga. -- A teacher in St. Marys is facing charges of child molestation and sending obscene material to children.
Last month, police started investigating a report of sexual activity between 34-year-old Amy Lee Cassada and a 15-year-old student at the St. Marys Ombudsman School.
Police said the report was made due to suspicious behavior between the teacher and the student who had private tutoring sessions together.
Police interviewed witnesses and seized several electronic devices as part of the investigation.
The Armstrong Atlantic State University Police Department analyzed the digital media evidence and found that Cassada also sent sexual images to the juvenile via text message.
A second person is in police custody in connection with the case. Police say 19-year-old John Ezzard admitted to threatening the 15-year-old boy. Ezzard, a former student of Cassada's, told police he received sexual images from her as well.
Cassada has been charged with child molestation and electronically furnishing obscene materials to minors.
Police believe there may be other juveniles or students who may have been victimized by Cassada. They're being asked to called the Criminal Investigation Division at the St. Marys Police Department. The number is 912-510-0436.
Cassada has been fired from her job, Action News learned late Tuesday afternoon.
