Teen struck, killed by train in Daytona Beach
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A teenager was struck and killed by a train in Daytona Beach Monday night, according to Daytona Beach police.
Police said Giovanni Gonzalez, 17, of Daytona Beach was struck and killed by the train near Wilder Boulevard.
According to police, Gonzalez was walking northbound around 8:30 p.m. Police said as the southbound train approach Gonzalez the train's conductor sounded the horn in an attempt to get Gonzalez to move.
Police said as the Florida East Coast train got closer Gonzalez tried to jump out of the way but was struck by the train. He died while being transported to Halifax Hospital.
Police said they don't know why Gonzalez didn't move off the track earlier.
