POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFTV) -- A routine traffic stop in east Polk County resulted in the largest seizure of methamphetamine in the county’s history, the sheriff's office said Wednesday.

Last week, detectives said they conducted a traffic stop on a white Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling southbound on U.S. Hwy 27 at the intersection of CR-630 in the area of Frostproof. Detectives said they ran the vehicle's tag and discovered that the registered owner of the Jeep had a suspended license and a Hillsborough County warrant on a battery charge.

The driver, who also is the owner of the Jeep, was identified as Scott Robert Eargood, 21.

While searching the Jeep, detectives said they found over $3,400 cash bundled in rubber bands and a "trap" that had been devised in the back of the Jeep, containing .5 lbs. of meth.

Eargood and his passenger, Santos Zamora-Escobar, 27,were taken into custody.

Detectives said they also searched Eargood and Zamora-Escobar's home on North Platte Lane in Poinciana, where they also found a "trap" that contained 110 lbs. of meth inside the drywall of a bathroom.

The investigation is ongoing.
