CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (WSB-TV) -- A prom night theft landed a Clayton County teen in jail, police said.
Morrow High School officials tell Channel 2 Action News a 15-year-old broke into the school library and stole 50 iPods.
Leaders declined to name the student but suspected he broke into the building because he knew the prom was going on elsewhere that evening and very few people would be at the school.
What the alleged thief did not know, until police confronted him in class, is that school leaders installed tracking software on all of the devices.
"When you break into a school like that and steal really what is public property, it is a very serious offense," said Clayton County District spokesperson David Waller.
Waller added the teen had one of the stolen iPods with him and the rest were at his house.
There is no word yet on the charges the student will face.
