Jaguars fan sells car for $200 to get home after being scammed

Ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship in Foxborough between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots, fans should be on the lookout for fake tickets.

Action News Jax spoke exclusively with a trio of Jags fans who were scammed into buying fake tickets to the divisional round game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

“We actually went online and found these really cheap tickets -- Section 120 -- for about $140 apiece,” said Andy Quach. “But those tickets ended up being fake.”

The group still made it in (by buying new tickets) but they had to make it back to Jacksonville Tuesday on a Greyhound bus.

That's because their SUV broke down on the way home. They had to be towed to an auto shop in West Virginia.

“They were going to charge me $4,400 to fix my transmission,” said Christian Lynch. “So to get home, I had to find a junkyard and I sold my car for $200 so we could get money to get bus tickets to Jacksonville so we could get home.”

Action News Jax asked the group if it was all worth it.

“Oh yeah, for a Jags win?!  For sure,” said Merrick Diiorio.

These fans have a warning to those who may be buying tickets for the Pats game.

“Instead of buying them off some auction website, just go to Stubhub or Ticketmaster,” Lynch said.

“If the price is too good to be true, it’s because it’s not true,” Quach said.
