150-pound pig attacks, hurts 2 at Massachusetts farm

TOWNSEND, Mass. — A man and woman were attacked by a pig in separate incidents in Townsend, Massachusetts, police said.

According to WFXT, police were called to a farm just before 6 p.m. Tuesday for a 38-year-old woman with cuts from an apparent pig attack.

EMS personnel treated the woman on the scene, and she was taken to Leominster Hospital.

About 7:30 p.m., emergency responders were again called to the farm for a man who had serious injuries from the same animal.

A medical helicopter was called for that 50-year-old man, but due to weather conditions, he was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the male pig weighs about 150 pounds and has been quarantined until it can be checked out by a veterinarian Wednesday.

Police told WFXT's Jacqui Heinrich that it's unclear why the pig wasn't quarantined after the first incident.

"The Townsend Police Department is investigating two very unfortunate farm incidents involving an animal attacking two people in the same day," Police Chief Robert Eaton said.
