Cat's meow, in reverse: Georgia man turns tables on feline

ATLANTA — Cat lovers can tell you: There are times when a feline can get under one’s skin.

A Georgia man, exasperated by his cat’s constant meowing — especially when he was trying to sleep — came up with a bit of revenge. But thankfully, the results were not, er, catastrophic.

In a video he posted on Facebook, Nicholas Tecosky, of Atlanta, films his cat, Italics, sleeping soundly on a bed. Tecosky moves in close, then emits a long, loud “Meow!” and the startled cat jumps up. Amazingly, the cat did not swipe at Tecosky with his claws. Or perhaps he was shaken by Tecosky’s in-your-face ploy.

“Were you sleeping? Were you sleeping? Don’t meow in the middle of the night,” Tecosky tells Italics.

“Four nights in a row he’s woken me,” Tecosky posted on Facebook.

As of Sunday evening, Tecosky’s video had 46,000 views, 853 likes and 1,382 shares.

Tecosky owns two cats and describes Italic’s housemate as “sweet and gentle.”

Reaction to the video ranged from hilarity to criticism.

“But, seriously, dude, you chose to own a cat. Or rather, let a cat own you,” one poster wrote.

“Dude. You seriously want to bring on cat vengeance?” wrote another.

Tecosky decided to record another video with Italics, reassuring viewers that the cat did not suffer from the surprise meow.

"In case you were wondering about the well-being of this cat — physical, or mental, or emotional even — he hasn't moved since I meowed at him earlier," Tecosky said, turning to Italics. "Have you. Have you."

As is the case with most cat owners, Tecosky may have won this battle, but he continues to lose the war. On Sunday, Tecosky posted another video of Italics meowing persistently.

I'll give Italics the last word on this matter. Taken in the 7:00 hour this morning. Though it may as well have been taken any day at any hour.
