Colorado's surplus marijuana tax revenues fund bully prevention programs

DENVER — The popularity of legalized marijuana in Colorado will help schools fight bullying.

According to

, surplus marijuana tax revenue in Colorado amounts to approximately $66 million. Among the programs to benefit from the tax surplus is a bully prevention grant. The Colorado Department of Education will offer up to $40,000 per school year to fund programs designed to prevent bullying.

While the grant was established in 2011, it took legalization of marijuana in the state to generate funding. Grant winners will be announced Dec. 30.
