Dozens burned during Tony Robbins' firewalking event

DALLAS — More than 30 people attending a Tony Robbins motivational seminar in Dallas did not survive his famous hot coals walk unscathed Thursday night.

Fire officials told WFAA that between 30 and 40 people were treated for burn-related injuries. According to The Associated Press, five people were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, but most of the injured were treated at the scene for burns to their feet and lower extremities.

The walk is a signature event of the Robbins seminar called “Unleash the Power Within.”

Approximately 7,000 people walked across the coals during the event.

Robbins Research International responded to the incident in a statement obtained by CBS11:

"In Dallas tonight, someone not familiar with the fire walk observed the event and called 911 erroneously reporting hundreds of people requiring medical attention for severe burns. While we are grateful to the quick and robust response from Dallas emergency services, only 5 of 7,000 participants requested any examination beyond what was readily available on site.  We are pleased to have completed another successful fire walk for 7,000 guests and look forward to the remainder of an outstanding weekend with them."

This is not the first time people have been injured at a firewalk during a Robbins seminar. In 2012, nearly two dozen people were injured at a Robbins firewalking event in San Jose, California.
