Florida woman bitten by rattlesnake facing $203K hospital bill, family says

A Central Florida woman was surprised after a snake on her front doorstep bit her. Now she faces a $203,000 bill.
WPTV reports that the victim was bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake around 8 p.m. Sunday at her Wesley Chapel home. She was taken to the hospital, where she was treated with “several doses of antivenin,” which cost about $20,000 each.
The family's GoFundMe page identified the victim as 56-year-old Cindy Vise.

"She opened up the door, she took a step out and stepped right on the snake," Elvan Silva, her daughter, said. "I was freaking out because you see in the movies it's minutes before they fall on the ground and that's it.”
Vise was kept in the hospital for tests and observation. "She didn't qualify for Medicaid, she doesn't have a job, no insurance and they were talking about $203,000," Silva told WPTV. "We have no idea how she will pay that. We've found a charity that will pay up to $36,000."
Snake expert Chris Wirt told WPTV that sometimes snakes can sneak up on you. "When we come out we also search for any kind of den, nest, eggs," he said. "We're getting calls about rattlesnakes two or three times a week right now, so people really need to prepare their yards by getting rid of excessive foliage, high grass, and keep their eyes open."
