Mom pens letter after son with Down syndrome wasn't invited to birthday party

LANGLEY, British Columbia — A mom, frustrated that her son was excluded, has taken to Facebook to write an open letter to the mother who left the boy off the invite list.

Jennifer Kiss-Engle's son Sawyer has Down syndrome. Sawyer was also the only child in his class not invited to a recent birthday party.

Kiss-Engle, upset that her son was left out possibly because of his disability, took to Facebook to vent her frustrations.

She wrote that she believes it wasn't an oversight that all children but Sawyer received an invitation, but that it was intentional.

Kiss-Engle went on to say that the snub was not because her son is mean, or not fun, or that the birthday child and Sawyer don't get along, but rather, "The only reason why you decided it was OK to not invite my son to your child's birthday party is because he has Down Syndrome."

She went on to say that she isn't mad at the other parent, but is using the post to allow the parent to get to know Sawyer better.
