JONESVILLE, S.C. — A South Carolina man was arrested Saturday after an argument with his 7-year-old nephew over a video game escalated into profane and threatening comments, according to an incident report.
Johnathon Aaron Lingerfelt, 26, was charged with breach of peace, The State of Columbia, South Carolina, reported.
According to the Union County Sheriff's Office, Lingerfelt was staying at his sister's home in Jonesville when he began swearing and arguing with his nephew, the newspaper reported.
The boy was playing a video game with his father when Lingerfelt allegedly began berating the child, according to the incident report. When Lingerfelt's sister intervened and told him it was not good to be "cussing like that," the man allegedly used a vulgar term while telling her to "shut up," The State reported.
According to the incident report, Lingerfelt told his sister he was going to leave with his 7-month-old daughter. However, the woman said the child had been placed in her care by the Department of Social Services while the department investigated Lingerfelt for "abuse and neglect," the newspaper reported.
At that point, Lingerfelt allegedly told his sister he was going to “punch her” in the mouth, the Sheriff’s Office said in its report.
Deputies were called to the scene, and after Lingerfelt admitted he cursed at his nephew and threatened his sister, he was arrested, The State reported.
The maximum penalty for a misdemeanor breach of peace in South Carolina is 30 days in jail and a $500 fine, the newspaper reported.
