Aerosmith's Joe Perry 'alert and responsive' after being rushed to hospital after performance

NEW YORK — Update 11:00 a.m. EST Nov. 12: Representatives for Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said on Sunday he is "alert and responsive" after being taken to the hospital after performing with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden Saturday night.

A rep issued the following statement to Rolling Stone:

"Following a guest performance during Billy Joel's show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive. The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month."

Original report: Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was reportedly taken to the hospital after he performed with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.

TMZ reported that, according to unnamed "eyewitnesses," the musician went back to his dressing room after finishing "Walk This Way" with Joel.

He collapsed backstage and paramedics worked on Perry for 40 minutes, TMZ claimed.

“We’re told they put a tracheal tube down his throat to clear the air path. There was panic in the dressing room, and one eyewitness says, ‘Joe did not look good,’” according to the celebrity gossip site.

Deadline reported that Perry, 68, was taken out of the Garden on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. According to the publication, there have been no updates on his condition.

Reports of the collapse and hospitalization haven’t been confirmed or commented on by Perry or his camp.
